
Wai Yan
Wai Yan is a Trauma Counsellor specializing in trauma-related psychological and social difficulties, including childhood adversity, complex trauma, grief and bereavement, and event-related trauma. He works primarily with survivors in humanitarian and community-based settings, supporting individuals affected by conflict, displacement, and crisis. His therapeutic philosophy is grounded in trauma-informed care, culturally responsive practice, and interventions tailored to each client’s needs. He is committed to fostering a safe, collaborative, and non-judgmental space where clients can regain emotional stability, rebuild resilience, and restore a sense of control and dignity. His approach prioritizes stabilization, empowerment, and sustainable recovery. Practicing under ongoing licensed clinical supervision, he adheres to strict professional ethics, including confidentiality, informed consent, and do-no-harm principles. His work aligns with international MHPSS guidelines and trauma-informed frameworks in humanitarian contexts. His clinical practice integrates psychotherapy frameworks, Polyvagal theory and EMDR-informed interventions, psychological stabilization skills (mindfulness, emotion regulation, self-compassion), cognitive and behavioral coping strategies, crisis intervention, and strength-based approaches. All services are adapted to clients’ psychological, social, and cultural contexts. Since 2020, he has delivered trauma counselling, psychosocial assessment, trauma-informed case formulation, crisis stabilization, MHPSS programming, capacity-building, and psychoeducation in NGO settings. With over 1,700 clinical hours, he supports diverse and conflict-affected populations.
